Millions of people suffer from eye and vision-related problems. For some, the solution is as simple as wearing prescription eyeglasses or contact lenses. However, others face challenges that aren’t as easy to rectify. That’s where Lumenis comes into play.

As a world leader in minimally invasive clinical solutions for both ophthalmology and aesthetic markets, it’s making a significant difference. Not only does Lumenis develop advanced energy-based technologies, but it also commercializes them.

The company continues to find innovative solutions. However, it’s already provided the fields of ophthalmology and aesthetics with remarkable technologies. OptiLight is just one example.

Eye and Vision-Related Solution

If you're tired of relying on artificial tears that only provide temporary relief, it may be time to treat the source of your dry eye. Lumenis OptiLight is the first and only FDA-approved Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) treatment for dry eye disease caused by meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD). Rather than simply masking symptoms, OptiLight addresses one of the most common underlying causes of chronic dry eye.

How Does OptiLight Work?

Healthy meibomian glands produce the oil layer that keeps tears from evaporating too quickly. When these glands become clogged or inflamed, your tears become unstable, leading to symptoms like burning, redness, blurry vision, watery eyes, and irritation.

OptiLight uses gentle pulses of light applied to the skin around the eyes to:

  • Reduce inflammation associated with dry eye

  • Improve the function of the meibomian (oil) glands

  • Restore a healthier tear film

  • Decrease tear evaporation

  • Reduce abnormal blood vessels that contribute to inflammation

  • Help reduce bacteria and Demodex mites around the eyelids

By treating the underlying cause of evaporative dry eye, many patients experience healthier, more comfortable eyes and longer-lasting relief.

What to Expect

OptiLight treatments are performed in our office and typically take only 10-15 minutes. For the best results, a series of 4 treatments is recommended, followed by maintenance treatments based on your individual needs.

During treatment, your practitioner will cover your eyes with shields and apply a thin layer of coupling gel on the treatment area. You may experience a warm sensation as light is applied to the skin. The treatment is gentle with minimal discomfort. Most patients describe the treatment as quick and comfortable with little to no downtime.
